Holy mother of Christ. So I’m chilling on Vimeo, cruising it up for awesome animations and (BAM), right in the face this one sucker punches me. The beginning of the video isn’t my cup of tee. I’ve seen hundreds of illustration based After Effects animations shoddily done, but something about this one made me linger.

About 15 seconds in I’m already knee deep in an unconscious plot that my own brain started to form around the visual scenery. There is no implicit plot, the narrative is left up for you to decide, but the motion graphics sent me into a visual overload that rarely occurs. Surreal, beautiful, and horrifying: this video will give you something worth watching.

After the Parsons Thesis show, I saw a lot of awe inspiring animations, namely one stood out to me because of its combination of hand-drawn elements combined with after effects technology made for a brilliant piece (suffice to say the story involved was beautiful on its own). This piece, however, is not that one (sorry to disappoint you) but one that reminds me of it. Katy Davis has a strong aesthetic style and great transitions and succeeds in combining stop motion animation with motion graphics techniques. The music is by BIM and you should check out Katie’s work at her website here.

Stunning After Effects Animation – White Birds Music Video

Great After Effects animation is hard to come by. With the slew of motion graphics art on the rise, its hard to find endearing and beautiful animation but I’ve managed to snag a golden example of engaging animation. The White Birds music video for Sarah Fimm by Newspeak uses textured artistic elements combined with rotoscoping and animated elements to create an emotionally driven and complete piece. Check them out on Vimeo as they have a ton of great animations that are perfect for inspiration.

Hard Hitting Motion Graphics – Jemapur Clarte by Genki Ito

I’m really glad I found this shortly after finding the preview. I was tempted to buy it before, but now I’m sold. Genki Ito has provided awesome, abstract, and astounding motion graphics paced perfectly with hard hitting industrial synth tracks. I’m impressed with his ability to sync the visual and the audio, which is a talent plenty of motion graphics artists lack. I haven’t posted anything related to Motion Graphics in a long time and figured that 3am on a Thursday morning was the best time to post anything at all. Considering I’m hyped up on coffee and starting to feel the effects of two consecutive all-nighters, I thought it was best to find a motion graphics piece that best represented the mental state that I’m in. Luckily the search was short and I came across the mind-numbing and awkwardly intense music video preview: Clarte by Jemapur. The motion graphics piece is “the latest film by W+K Tokyo Lab creator, Genki Ito. The concept is nuclear fusion in the micro world, matching poetic animation to a heavy-hitting track.” The intense soundtrack, coupled with simple and powerful visual elements creates a wonderful menagerie of images that keep you at the edge of your seat while you watch the microscopic process of nuclear fusion unfold before your very eyes. Videogame companies around the world seem to be capitalizing on all of the talent available at their fingertips. The age of the pure 3d rendered trailer seems to be losing steam in places like Japan, China, Korea, and here in America; major gaming companies have taken note of these and have started to provide more down to earth, inspiring, and moving motion graphic pieces that keep you on the edge of the seat even though you know the game looks nothing like it. Battlefield Bad Company 2 HD trailer offers promotional material that had me going =O. The video focuses around the simple, beautiful, morbid, and brutal circle of life that is war. It is both effective in terms of telling a complete story in a short amount of time, and it also finds success in terms of its simplicity involving the actual motion graphics techniques implemented in the trailer. Take a look and get the game which is sure to have more of this content even if you’re not a videogame fanatic.

Jealousy? This is jealousy and amazement. I’m not really a huge fan of commercial motion graphics because they tend to stifle free creativity, yet absolut vodka has always managed to find great animators, motionographers, and creatives to work on their product spots for the absolut vodka line. This video is now different and showcases some of their best motion graphics and animation know-how with their launch video spot for their Absolut 100 line. The actual animation was done by NoMoreSleep and it would be a horrible disservice to not tell all of you to immediatly head to his website and revel in his awesomeness.

I just can’t get enough eye candy lately. I found this video on Vimeo and figured it would be great inspiration for all of the creatives out there. It doesn’t really matter what field you’re in, Syn Studios has produced a stunning motion graphics video for the band Alias Glee that should get anyone’s creative juices flowing if you’re in an artistic rut. The soft music coupled with powerful and subtle guitar rifts is matched by Syn Studio’s close attention to the relationship between the audio and visual worlds. I can’t wait to see more work by this group, enjoy!
