I’m not a person with 1,500 people following me (I wouldn’t mind being that person though) but I do have a large number of people that I follow and who follow me, but I’ve found that most of the time I skim through their tweets on tweetdeck without paying any real attention. I’ve gone as far as to notice that there are a specific group of people whom I give all of my attention when I see their tweets and I’ve decided to share them with you, they’re all remarkable people ranging across a variety of creative fields. Each one has something great to offer so you should follow them if you ever need creative inspiration, technical help, or just a good chat.

@imjustcreative

Chances are you already know him. If you don’t, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Graham has tons of professional branding experience and always has the right stuff to point you in the right direction. http://www.imjustcreative.com/

@adellecharles

A recent follow/follower. I’ve always seen her tweets popping up all over the place and after awhile I realized it was always something worthwhile. A little late in the game, but she and the rest of FuelYourCreativity are worth following. http://www.fuelyourcreativity.com/

@bfm_web_Design

Web Design companies don’t get enough credit, Blue Fountain Media has great resources for designers and online markets alike and their tweets are always worth taking a look at. As part of the team I personally know that they’re willing to give help to anyone one who needs it. http://www.bluefountainmedia.com/

@chadengle

This creatively distinctive fellow has a protective eye on the design community and has gone out of his way to create #DCTH (Design Community Thursdays I believe) which is an hour or so where designers across twitter talk to one another and share advice, resources, experiences and their expertise. http://ceaweed.com/ramble/

@AlhanKeser

As a colleague of Alhan, I can confidently say that he is part of a modern generation of search engine marketers focusing on usability and design. He uses ROI as a measures of success in his SEM strategies. Definitely a great person to get helpful tips about SEO and online marketing. http://www.alhankeser.com/

@aaroni268

Defitnitely one of the few people I listen to when it comes to design research and user interaction. He tackles tough design problems such as project failure and success in well-articulated articles that are a must-read if you’re a designer or programmer. http://www.thisisaaronslife.com/

@simplebits

He doesn’t tweet much, but when he does it might necessarily be about anything creative, but his witty, odd, and well placed remarks will make you laugh a couple times a day. http://www.simplebits.com/

@fiammetta137

A young designer, artist, and creative who is meticulous, detailed, and diligent in all of her work. She’s most famous for her creative Line drawings and her portfolio is an eclectic hodgepodge of creative work from across her lifetime. Her line drawings are only matched by her stunning photography so make sure to look to her for creative inspiration. http://katherine.pixelcandy.net

@Colorburned

Grant created Colorburned in 1999 and has taken its presence into the online social media world providing me every morning with links to design related resources that help me in the workplace and in my own creative projects http://colorburned.com

@CreativeFluff

A group of young designers, business majors, and artists that provide the design community with interesting tips, articles, resources, and events. Though under the radar on twitter they have a strong online following and continue to grow. Make sure to add them and get some of the most recent design news to date. http://www.creativefluff.com

@arbenting

She doesn’t tweet enough, that would be my only critique of her. Her website features great color schemes and inspiration and she’s always providing good feedback to the rest of the design community. http://arbent.net/blog/

@styletime

This tweetmaster has been on my list for awhile now. He’s given me great social media resources that have helped me a number of projects and given me solutions to personal creative dilemmas. Definitely an expert on personal and company branding worth looking out for. http://www.styl.eti.me/

@TheGameCritique

Game design doesn’t get enough credit and Eric Swain does a good job bringing to the forefront of the design community the inherent problems faced by game design, theory, and research. If you haven’t figured out the relationship between game design and the rest of the design community you should do yourself a favor and follow him to expand your knowledge on the subject. http://www.thegamecritique.com

@DesignNewz

A recent ad, but what place to get design news on twitter than from someone who does nothing but post design news right around the internet? Following DesignNewz is a great idea because you can just as easily pick and choose what news headlines in the design world to pay attention to. It’s kind of like CNN’s political ticker, except we all benefit from design news. http://design-newz.com/

@creattica

Right in the vein of Creativefluff and DesignNews, Creattica provides daily doses of creativity from across the web and is a great way of promoting creative artists and designers alike making sure to get their name out in the open. I would have missed a ton of inspiration if it weren’t for them. http://www.creattica.com

@kengeo

One of the most musically inclined designers I have on my twitter list. Aside from providing me with great music to listen to while I work, he’s an experienced front end web developer providing interesting and different resources and tweets when you need them. http://www.kenroygeorge.com/

@KrisColvin

Kris Clovin is another recent follow of mine and she’s one of the founders of Fresh ID.  She’s given me refreshing tweets during boring days and great information on brands, customers, marketing, and social media strategies that are easy to understand and put into practice.  http://design-for-users.com/

@alexlinebrink

Probably one of the few designers awake with me at 4am, but if you’re up at that time on the East Coast make sure to have him on your follow list otherwise you’re missing out on some smooth, late night design related tweets. http://www.thatindiedude.com/

@siahdesign

Another tweeter I’ve known for a long time in the twitter world, Siah’s given me great resources and helped pass around a lot of my own that I’ve released to the design community.  Definitely one of the few creative people on twitter who not only provide you with great resources, but help you promote your own. http://siahdesign.com/

@andysowards

I might of started following Andy a little too late.  For those of you who don’t know, he’s the one responsbile for our Daily Nerd Links that are huge lists of design, creative, and technical resources for people across a wide span of fields.  He’s got a little something for everyone. http://andysowards.com/

@behoff

A New Jersey native like myself, Brian’s The Design Cubicle has been the source of tons of great tweets and resources like his latest on online print vendors (used one of them recently).  He also annoucnes a lot of design-related contests through twitter so he’s another must have on your twitter list.  http://www.thedesigncubicle.com/

I’m sure I’ve left people out but these are the ones that came to mind right away.  I’ll be doing a part 2 in the near future so make sure to add me @Megalongcat to your follow list if you aren’t already to get the update on designers you should be following.

Design News from the Community

  • On the Wii and ControlsSeptember 16, 2009

    The following is a comment I posted over on the latest GameCritic’s podcast. It may seem a little rantish, but that’s why I’m going to expand on it at the end.
